This Jack Nicklaus signature course is the best in the Algarve and Portugal. According to the Top 100 Golf Courses of the World, it ranks first in the Algarve, first in Portugal, and twelfth in all of Europe. The Monte Rei development has over 400 hectares (1,000 acres). There is a magnificent country club and plenty of charming villas in the nearby area. The course has breath-taking views of the Atlantic ocean and the mountains of the Serra do Caldeirão. Fine dining is offered in the country club at the Vista restaurant with the signature style of Chef Jaime Perez.
This course is very challenging in order to live up to its Jack Nicklaus name. The thirteenth hole sits beside a lake with a green that undulates wildly. The fourteenth hole requires shooting over a lake and the long par 5 eighteenth hole has a lake right in the middle.

Monte Rei golf Club Algarve is ranked by some as the best course in the world and based on my experience, I can see why! The course is stunning. We payed the full 190 euro's, however by teaming off before 9.30, we where given complimentary lunch (all 7 courses which were all excellent).
The greens where is reasonable condition, however by being the 1st group out they where still a bit wet. I would highly recommend the venue, especially when compared with the west algarve courses that cost the same, the scenery is like nothing you would see anywhere else. The only gripe would be that once you go off the fairways, you are into the protected nature area which is classed as a lateral water hazard so is expensive on dropped shots!

|Pro Comment: Set away from the heart of the golfing area of the Algarve, is arguably the best golf course in the country and Europe. There are no weak holes here. The bunkers are amazing and a real trap. The PAR 5 are long and the PAR 3 demand long irons. The 13th and 14th are among the most interesting holes of the region. To finish your round is a long PAR 5 that will make the joy of the long hitters.|
