A rather challenging golf course, the Vila Sol has been praised as one of the best courses in Portugal. It is defined by its amazing natural surroundings with a huge range of fauna and flora, offering everyone an enjoyable view and lovely time. The course stretches along a wide valley, which offers a real test to those who dare to go for every single pin location.
The total length for the 27-hole former European Tour venue is a monstrous 8880 metres, which would be very difficult for amateurs and beginners to play around here. Nonetheless, the spectacular views around are rewarding enough to just visit; scores don’t matter.
It would be a good choice to simply walk the course and enjoy your time there. The tree lines and wildlife would leave you speechless. Visiting the Vila Sol golf course is a once in a lifetime experience.
If you have a "must play list", add this course to it. I played it twice in a week. The first time I was spraying it - needed a guide dog to find my balls for me, so to speak, the second time I was much better. The course's main defence is the trees. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Lots of trees. Stay out of them and keep them out of your way and you're rewarded. Hit it in the trees or beind them in the fairway and you'd better be creative or sensible. There is no real rough to speak of when you hit it in the trees, so you tend to find your ball.
Played the Prime/Challenge combo twice in glorious October sunshine. Condition was pretty fair after a long hard season. You have to be straight. The trees are very dense, so once in them, take your medicine and chip out. It reminds me of the Duchess at Woburn a bit. Some interesting holes. The clubhouse is marvelous.
We stayed at Pestana Vila Sol Golf and Spa Resort Portugal and as hotel I must say that Vila Sol gc is 5 star golf course. It was great holidays.

|Pro Comment: Part of a resort on the outskirts of Vilamoura, Vila Sol is a must play in the area. The hostilities start very early with the stroke index 1 PAR 4 on the third. The 6th is a long down the hill PAR 5 as well as the 8th with a gentle dogleg and the green located on the left of the fairway. The back nine is stronger in quality and the two last PAR 4 are a great way to finish your round of golf.|
